For the first time in a decade, shortstop Didi Gregorius will not be a part of an MLB roster on opening day.

Despite being only 33 years old, the Curacao-born player has not attracted much interest from MLB teams since his contract with the Philadelphia Phillies expired last fall.

At 6-foot 3 and 230 lbs, Gregorius demonstrates agility at his position that would be expected from a man twice his size. Moreover, his proven hitting ability makes him an attractive middle-order option for a variety of suitors.

Today, we are taking a look at some teams that might want to consider making a play for Gregorius before the 2023 MLB season kicks off at the end of the month.

Top 3 possible landing spots for Didi Gregorius

#3 San Francisco Giants

An open secret in San Francisco is that Brandon Crawford, their shortstop of over a decade, is not getting older. A 4-time Gold Glover, Crawford was once in a league of his own. However, injuries have become more frequent in his game.

With his contract set to expire in 2023, Brandon Crawford could likely throw in the towel. Although Didi Gregorius isn't a long-term strategy at shortstop for the Giants, he can man down the fort until the team can find someone who is.

#2 Atlanta Braves

Although the Atlanta Braves have won their division in each of the last ten seasons, their time may be coming to an end.

Just one season after Freddie Freeman abandoned his post as the face of the Atlanta Braves to sign a 6-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, shortstop Dansby Swanson rejected a qualifying offer and signed with the Chicago Cubs.

To replace Swanson, the Braves appear intent on using 34-year old Venezuelan Orlando Arcia at shortstop. Since 2020, Arcia has played no more than eleven games at shortstop. Didi Gregorius, who has made nearly 200 starts at shortstop during that time frame, could prove to be a reliable resource for Arcia.

#1 Miami Marlins

Despite a fairly dismal showing in 2023, the Miami Marlins may be the league's most improved team in 2023.

2023 AL batting champ Luis Arraez has joined the lineup at second base. Alongside existing utility man Joe Wendle, Gregorius could be a valuable addition to an exciting young team with a solid future ahead of them.
