Grayson Rodriguez is the Baltimore Orioles' top prospect and he's about to make his debut. The pitcher is from Houston, Texas, so he's not Mexican by nationality. He grew up in America and is now poised to become an American pitcher.
The Baltimore Orioles' top prospect is expected to make his season debut tonight against the Texas Rangers. He was called up to start after initially being in AAA to begin the year.
He replaces Kyle Bradish in the rotation. Bradish suffered an injury and is on the Injured List. He'll be replaced by Rodriguez until he recovers, which means the pitching prospect could get quite a few more starts under his belt before he returns to AAA.
He faces a Rangers lineup led by Corey Seager, Marcus Semien and Nathaniel Lowe for his first regular-season MLB action in 2023.
Grayson Rodriguez the latest top prospect to debut
Grayson Rodriguez is MLB's seventh-ranked prospect overall and the Orioles' second behind Gunnar Henderson. Henderson will not be considered a prospect for much longer, though.
With Rodriguez in the MLB, five of the top seven MLB prospects have made their MLB debut. Henderson debuted last year, as did Corbin Carroll (number two overall).
Fourth and fifth overall prospects Jordan Walker (St. Louis Cardinals) and Anthony Volpe (New York Yankees) made their debuts on Opening Day, too, and have been major contributors thus far.
Including the Orioles pitcher, the list of top prospects that haven't cracked the majors just yet is dwindling fast.
