Fans are wondering if Mookie Betts will be back in action on Monday night

Mookie Betts' absence from the Dodger lineup has been clearly missed and fans can't wait to see their star back in action. According to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts intends to have Betts back in his lineup for their game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday.

On June 16, Betts took a fastball from Royals pitcher Dan Altaville off of his left wrist. Immediately, the former MVP hit the ground writhing in pain. For anyone watching, it became immediately apparent that Betts was in trouble.

"Mookie Betts got drilled right on the hand and is out of the game. He was on the ground in pain for a LONG TIME... he could barely even stand and walk because the pain was so much" - Blake Harris

Subsequent MRI testing revealed that Mookie Betts had suffered a fracture on his left wrist, and was given a return timeline of approximately two months. At the time of his regrettable entry onto the 60-day IL, the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop was hitting .304/.405/.488 with nine steals, 10 home runs, and 40 RBIs.

Is Mookie Betts playing shortstop tonight?

Set to be Betts' first MLB appearance in nearly sixty days, Ardaya also broke that Betts will be moved to right field, rather than shortstop, where he started 81 games since 2023, despite not having played the position since high school.

After spring training, Betts took over at shortstop from Gavin Lux. Lux, who missed all of 2023 with injury, was struggling at shortstop. However, Lux's fielding has improved and the 26-year-old Wisconsin native has slashed .314/.375/.400 over his past fifteen games.

What to expect from Mookie Betts in 2024?

Last year, Betts finished right behind Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuna Jr. in MVP voting. When he first hit the IL back in June, many were expecting Betts to scoop up his second career MVP Award in 2024.

Although that will not happen, Betts' bat back in the lineup is good news for the Dodgers. Given his current trajectory, the 31-year-old is on track to hit 20 home runs, 75 RBIs, and keep his average somewhere around .300.
