Is Oswaldo Cabrera related to Miguel Cabrera? The New York Yankees prospect and Detroit Tigers future Hall of Famer share a last name. But that is all they share, as they are not related.

The Yankees' new starting left fielder and the Tigers' first baseman are both from Venezuela but from different parts. Miguel is from Maracay and Oswaldo is from Guarenas.

Miguel Cabrera (39) isn't old enough to be Oswaldo's (24) father and he only has one sibling -- a sister named Ruth. Oswaldo has a brother named Eleardo and there is no relation between the two MLB Cabreras.

His competition wasn't stiff. Aaron Hicks has fallen on hard times and is now the fourth outfielder. Isiah Kiner-Falefa learned the outfield but wasn't a threat to earn the job and the Yankees decided to leave hot-hitting Jasson Dominguez in the minor leagues for now.

That left Cabrera, but it's not as if he's a bad choice for the job. In 2022, he played the outfield sparingly as he moved around during his time in the majors. He also played unbelievably well.

In just under 300 innings, he had nine defensive runs saved. That's more than Aaron Judge had in an entire season in the outfield. The Yankees are comfortable with Cabrera manning left field full-time.
