New York Mets shortstop Jose Iglesias dropped his much-awaited single "OMG" on Friday. After the Mets' 7-2 win against the Houston Astros at Citi Field, the crowd was in for a live performance from Iglesias on the field, leaving a perfect closure to the evening.
Iglesias' performance captivated the crowd and the Mets dugout, who later joined him on the field, vibing to the tunes. The performance had a concert-like setting, with the crowd also enjoying themselves.
However, fans on the internet had divided reactions to it. Some didn't like it, while others thought it was good to have such entertainment. Here are some of the reactions from fans on X/Twitter:
"People calling this corny hate having fun," one fan commented.
Some compared the Mets to the Savannah Bananas team, which plays baseball with special rules to interact with fans for some fun and entertainment:
"Is this the Savannah Bananans? wtf is this nonsense," one fan commented under the Instagram reel.
"Spanish Savanah bananas," one fan said.
"Who do they think they are… the Savannah bananas???" another added.
Others mostly found this amusing and saw their team chemistry as the reason for their recent surge:
"Happy they finally clickin and feelin good and having fun. Would love to have our rivalry back at full speed," one fan wrote.
"Not a Mets fan, but hard not to appreciate a team that's doing what baseball is all about: having fun," a fan commented under Instagram reel.
"Ball game and a concert. What a ticket," added one fan.
Jose Iglesias performs indoors at Citi Field with teammates vibing to "OMG"
On Thursday, Jose Iglesias promoted his single "OMG" by performing it in the presence of his teammates and their families at Citi Field in an indoor space.
Sharing the dance floor to vibe with Iglesias' song were Pete Alonso, Luis Severino, Francisco Alvarez, Edwin Diaz, Jose Quintana, DJ Stewart, Jeff McNeil, Francisco Lindor, Tyrone Taylor, Mark Vientos, Sean Manaea, David Peterson, Brandon Nimmo, J.D. Martinez, Kodai Senga, Reed Garrett and Jake Diekman.
The entire event was shared on social media by the club.
Watch the clip below:
“We’re singing it. We’re humming it all the time,” said reliever Adam Ottavino via The Athletic. “This one has definitely hit the most in the clubhouse.”
This song is now played during every New York Mets victory at Citi Field. More so, this seems to have built a nice chemistry within the team as the Mets have been on a tear in June, going 18-6 since May 30.
Fans will hope the good run continues in the second game of their three-game series with the Astros on Saturday.
