New York Yankees ace Carlos Rodon and his wife Ashley had trouble conceiving until they became pregnant with their firstborn daughter Willow in 2019. The couple who tied the knot in Jan. 2018 had to go through two miscarriages.
That prompted them to explore other fertility options and found IVF treatment as the best possible way to realize their dream of becoming parents. Ashley even had an appointment booked for IVF treatment, but she never walked over, as she got to know that she had become pregnant.
Speaking about their experience on a new podcast started by Lance Lynn's wife, Dymin, called "Dymin the Rough," Ashley revealed about the miscarriages that took place in her family that weren't told to her before she also went through the same.
"If you don't talk about it, it just gets swept under the rug, just like my grandma's miscarriage was swept under the rug by every single one of her children until her 23-year-old grandchild had a miscarriage," Ashley said. "That's crazy to me. No one ever talked about it."
Carlos Rodon's wife Ashley is happy with changing times as people are now willing to talk about fertility
Times have changed, and people are much more open and free to talk about their fertility journey, which makes Ashley happy.
"Now, people are talking about it—they're talking about their fertility journeys. I think that's what's going to push things forward more than anything because people have to push," Ashley added.
"Women have to push, honestly. Reproductive rights are a huge topic right now, too. Everyone is shining a light on women's bodies, and I honestly love it because it has to be talked about."
Carlos Rodon and Ashley's personal experience led them to understand how difficult it can be for other families going through something similar. That led them to start the Carlos Rodon and Next Egg Foundation, which collaborates to fund aspiring couples with expensive IVF treatment.
In September, they organized Willow Gala, named after their daughter, to collect donations and help couples in need.
