The Los Angeles Dodgers have someone who wants to join their team. That shouldn't be much of a surprise since they are one of baseball's best teams and have a good chance at winning the World Series this year. What may be a surprise is who's expressing that desire.
44-year-old former starter Rich Hill, who played for the Dodgers from 2016 to 2019, has expressed a desire to join a contending team, especially LA. He was ineffective last year but does not want to retire just yet.
Hill said on AM 570 LA Sports on X, formerly known as Twitter:
"I love the city and I love wearing Dodger blue. It would be a great reunion."
He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres last year and didn't pitch that well, but he still has some left in the tank and could be a depth piece/innings eater for a contending team. The Dodgers would likely have the first pick if they wanted him, but reports are that he's interested in any contender.
Moves the Dodgers might make at the deadline
Aside from a potential Rich Hill signing, although there's no indication that they're poised to bring him on, the Dodgers will make moves. Though their first half was a success, injuries and depth have been a problem. If they're to win it all, they need to shore some things up.
Their infield depth, particularly third base and shortstop, could use some help with Max Muncy and Mookie Betts injured. They may look at crosstown rival Matt Chapman or Bo Bichette from the Toronto Blue Jays.
Bullpen help is something every team always needs, so Tanner Scott or Mason Miller would be exciting options. Given how bad their outfield has largely been this season, a big trade for Luis Robert Jr., Randy Arozarena, Cody Bellinger, or Jazz Chisholm Jr. would not be a big surprise.
The Dodgers figure to be one of the most active teams this deadline, which is July 30. By the time the month ends, they may have a wholly different roster.
