"It just looked weak to me" - MLB radio host warns Juan Soto over future calls following recent umpire outburst

Juan Soto tried to call time on a 1-2 pitch during the eighth inning of the New York Yankees' 3-1 loss against the Atlanta Braves. However, Braves' hurler Joe Jiminez threw the pitch for a strike despite Soto moving outside the batter's box. The home plate umpire awarded the strikeout to the pitcher, leaving Soto enraged.

Soto's reaction was not met well, with one radio host issuing a warning for Soto after this incident.

“You can’t expect grace from umpires when you show up every umpire. You show up every pitcher and catcher. It just looked weak to me as the Yankees were about to lose six of eight … just stay in the box and swing the bat. That was a pitch you could have hit,” Keith McPherson of WFAN said.

Instead, the inning ended. Trailing by two runs and with Aaron Judge on deck in the bottom of the eighth inning, that could have been a key moment. If Soto had gotten on base, he might've been driven in by Judge.

Instead, he was called out standing four feet away from home plate. It ended a potential rally before it could begin.

In the same rant, Keith McPherson turned some general criticism towards Juan Soto, who has cooled off a bit of late.

“He’s not above reproach," McPherson said. "He can be better in right field. He’s batting .136 in his last seven games. I don’t care who you are and what you think. When I was watching the game [Sunday], a crucial rubber match … Juan Soto, a guy we’re looking to drive the ball … I’m looking for a little better."

The New York Yankees outfielder has been great all year but is enduring a bit of a rough patch at the moment. His average (.305) and OPS (.994) have dipped significantly, though he is still walking a lot.
