Veteran Los Angeles Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw made his second start of the season against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. However, it turned out to be a night to forget at Petco Park for the All-Star hurler.

Kershaw made a strong start to the game, going scoreless in the first inning. However, that was the only positive stat of the day as he was taken for four runs in the second inning.

Things then went from bad to worse for the former Cy Young winner as he conceded another three runs in the following inning before being taken off the mound by manager Dave Roberts. Kershaw lasted 3.2 innings on the mound, giving up seven runs without a single strikeout, a first in a regular season game for the Dodgers legend.

Fans had plenty to say about Kershaw's performance against the Padres, and many shared their thoughts on X/Twitter:

"It's time to call it a career," another fan said.
"It’s embarrassing to watch this guy," one fan added.

Several fans even called for the celebrated pitcher to call time on his career after a substantial drop in his performances:

"Time to hang up the cleats," suggested a fan.
"Die-hard Padres fan here who hates the Dodgers. This man had a fantastic career and is a class act & great family man off the field. But he's done. This isn't the same guy I saw carve us up for the majority of his career. Hope he retires and enjoys his family. He deserves to," wrote another fan.

Dodgers offense falters after Clayton Kershaw's early exit

The LA Dodgers have been hit by injuries to their starting rotation and were hoping for a boost after Clayton Kershaw returned from an injury of his own last week.

While Kershaw did look leggy in his season debut against the San Francisco Giants, he managed six strikeouts over four innings while allowing just two runs. However, there was no respite for him against a raging Padres offense who were out for blood in the rubber game of the series against their division rivals.

Although the Dodgers have managed to not concede a run after taking off Kershaw, the team's offense has failed to rescue the pitching staff with the Padres currently leading 8-1 in the seventh inning.
