It's been a rough season for Justin Turner. The 39-year-old has struggled to produce much of anything at the plate this year with both the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. It's clear that his best days are behind him, however, there could be something in the near future that could certainly put a smile on his face.
The two-time All-Star is aware that his playing days in the MLB may soon be coming to an end, however, there appears to be something he would like to do before all is said and done. Justin Turner appears open to retiring as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and potentially joining the organization in a different role down the road.
Now a member of the Seattle Mariners, Turner made his return to Dodger Stadium on Monday night, addressing the fans and the organization. The World Series champion's return to the city saw Turner catching up with old friends and teammates, while also soaking up the moment.
"If it presented itself, it would be something I really took into consideration," Turner said.
Prior to Monday's game, Turner spoke to the media about returning to Dodger Stadium. The veteran told MLB insider David Vassegh that he would be open to the idea of returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers and retiring as a member of the team.
Justin Turner's best seasons of his MLB career were with the Dodgers
Justin Turner spent nine seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, helping the team defeat the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2020 World Series. Over those seasons, Turner appeared in 1,075 games, posting a .296 batting average with 156 home runs and 574 RBIs.
Although Turner has taken on a bit of a journeyman role, spending time with four different teams in the last three seasons, he will always be remembered for his contributions with the Dodgers.
It seems like a real possibilty that the Dodgers could look to sign Turner to even a one-day contract to allow him to retire as a member of the team given its fondness for honoring former stars. At the beginning of August, the team honored former outfield superstar Matt Kemp, so it seems possible that the Dodgers would do something similar for Justin Turner.
