Love him or hate him, Trevor Bauer is certainly one of the most entertaining pitchers on the mound. Although it has sometimes been to his detriment, Bauer has made a living by letting his personality shine through as often as his pitching abilities.
Even though Trevor Bauer has been attempting to make an MLB comeback by pitching in the Mexican League, the former Cy Young Award has continued his playful antics. In one of his recent posts on social media, Bauer can be seen denying one of his Mexican League opponents his signature "sword" move after recording a strikeout.
"Do I Get Sworded For This?" - @BauerOutage
In Bauer's video, the former Los Angeles Dodgers star highlights one of his Mexican League strikeouts, while also showing that the batter wanted to be his next "sword" victim.
"Did you see him give me the sword?" Bauer asked at the beginning of the video.
Bauer continued to mix up his pitch type throughout the at-bat, collecting a number of swings and misses;nhowever, according to Bauer, the strikeout was not sword-worthy.
"It wasn't a sword," he said in the video, denying his opponent the movement that would see Bauer return an imaginary sword to it's sheath. "He was like, 'Am I going to get this?'" Bauer said of his oppponent before shaking his head and saying "no no no."
Trevor Bauer's "sword" movement only come after specific strikeouts
The former Cincinnati Reds star has brought his signature strikeout movement to the Mexican League this year. Even though Bauer has racked up a ton of strikeouts this year, only specific ones warrant the "sword" animation.
"First Sword In Mexico #sword" - @BauerOutage
In order for Bauer's opponent to receive a "sword" following a strikeout, the batter needs to swing and miss so embarassingly bad that it looks like the hitter is holding their bat up like a sword. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for the batter in the video shared by Bauer, his strikeout swing was not bad enough to warrant the former Cy Young Award winner putting his sword back in its sheath.
Trevor Bauer's "sword" celebration has become so synonymous with him that the former All-Star even sells his own merchandise promoting the move. Bauer's website features a number of shirts, as well as other products with the movement on it.
