As the offseason progresses, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jack Flaherty recently shared the strict training routine that keeps him at the top of his game. For professional athletes, the offseason is an important period for recovery, skill enhancement and physical conditioning.
Flaherty, who has faced challenges with injuries in recent years, understands the importance of maximizing this time to prepare for the upcoming season.
On Tuesday on Instagram, Zach Ray, the president and founder of Live Athletics Physical Therapy, gave the exercises being performed by Flaherty. One exercise is meant for generating explosive and controlled torque. The other is meant for improving reaction time in athletes.
The post's caption provided an overview:
"Training like a pro means moving with control, power, and precision. 🔋🔌 @jflare shows us two key exercises that keep him stacked, stable, and locked in this offseason:
"1️⃣ Torque Slide – Build rotational power and core strength by controlling movement under load. Perfect for athletes needing explosive yet controlled torque, like pitchers on the mound.
"2️⃣ 3 Cones Hop with Overpull – Develop agility, balance, and upper body power by combining quick footwork with resistance. This drill improves reaction time and strengthens that critical kinetic chain.
"Take a page from Jack’s playbook and incorporate these into your training to elevate your athleticism! 🏋️♂️⚡️"
Flaherty's workout shows that pitching is not just limited to throwing a ball toward a batter. It requires a lot of concentration from the mind and coordination of the entire body.
Jack Flaherty's 2024 season and his position as a free agent
Jack Flaherty's 2024 season was a transitional one, as he was traded from the Detroit Tigers to the LA Dodgers at the trade deadline in July. The Dodgers gave up catcher/first baseman Thayron Liranzo and shortstop Trey Sweeney to get him.
In his last season with the Tigers, he played 18 games, going 7-5 with a 2.95 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 106.2 innings.
Apart from that, in his first season with the Dodgers, he went 6-2 in 10 games and had a 3.58 ERA. He had 61 strikeouts in 55.1 innings and helped them win the World Series.
Flaherty became a free agent after the end of the season. According to DodgerBlue.com, he can get a contract worth $100 million if a team signs him on a five- to six-year deal.
According to Bleacher Report, the Boston Red Sox could sign Flaherty. The Baltimore Orioles could also get him if they fail to sign Corbin Burnes.
After the recent signing of Blake Snell with a five-year, $182 million deal alongside the awaited return of Shohei Ohtani, it would be worth noting how the Dodgers move in the case of Flaherty.
