Jackson Holliday had to go through a dreadful start to his major league career with the Baltimore Orioles before impressing down the back end of the 2024 campaign. His brother, Ethan, is set to get drafted by an MLB team next year, while one of their younger cousins is also projected to turn professional in a few years.
On Wednesday evening, their father, Matt Holliday, shared a post on his Instagram account to congratulate his nephew, Brady, for making the top 10 in the Oklahoma Class of 2027.
Matt Holliday is a former eight-time All-Star outfielder who had a 15-year career in the big leagues with four different teams. Holliday played eight seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals and won the World Series with the club in 2011. He had played for Stillwater High School, Oklahoma, before being drafted in the 1998 MLB Draft.
Like his father, Jackson Holiday also represented Stillwater High before getting drafted by a major league team. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Ethan, and cousin Brady were teammates for their alma mater this year.
Brady Holliday was listed in the ninth spot by Baseball Prep among the top-10 high school prospects from the state of Oklahoma that are projected to be in the 2027 MLB Draft. He is just a couple of months past his 16th birthday and plays as a middle infielder like his older cousins.
Positive end to challenging rookie season for Jackson Holliday
Jackson Holliday, the No. 1 pick of the 2022 MLB Draft, carried massive expectations from the Baltimore Orioles fans at the start of the 2024 season and was considered the top favorite to win Rookie of the Year. However, it did not quite pan out that way as the 21-year-old was sent down to the minors on a couple of occasions before he could secure a regular berth in the team.
Holliday managed to get just two hits in his first 10 games at the beginning of April before he was dropped down to AAA. Nevertheless, he was a much improved player when the Orioles brought him back at the start of August. Holliday batted .219/.287.351 during the last two months of the regular season, getting 10 extra-base hits, including 4 home runs, along with 18 RBIs.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Ethan Holliday is also touted to get selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the MLB Draft next year.
