San Diego Padres stars Jackson Merrill, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Yu Darvish stole the show in Sunday's 10-2 NLDS Game 2 win over the LA Dodgers. Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman couldn't mount any offense for LA as the trio went hitless.
Tatis hit a solo homer in the top of the first inning against Jack Flaherty to open the scoring for the Padres. He also hit a two-run homer against Edgardo Henriquez in the top of the ninth inning.
Jackson Merrill's offensive contributions started with an RBI single with Tatis scoring. The potential NL Rookie of the Year then homered in the top of the eighth inning, driving in two RBIs.
Xander Bogaerts, Jurickson Profar, David Peralta and Kyle Higashioka also homered for the Padres. Merill's girlfriend, Sammie Quinn, and Tatis's mom, Maria, reacted to the homers via their Instagram stories.
Maria shared the video of all the Padres star's homers from MLB's official page, while Sammie shared her boyfriend's homer with the caption, "LET'S GOOO" with two heart emojis.
With the victory, the Padres have tied the series 1-1. The Friars will have momentum and home-crowd advantage in Game 3 on Tuesday at Petco Park.
Walker Buehler will be starting on the mound for the Dodgers, while the Padres will have Michael King as the starting pitcher. King is coming off an impressive performance in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series against the Braves.
Fernando Tatis Jr.'s mom reacts to Padres star trolling Dodgers fans
Fernando Tatis was playing at enemy territory in the Dodgers Stadium on Sunday. LA fans booed the Padres superstar, but he enjoyed the attention as he basked in it. Moreover, he even trolled fans, which his mom seemed to like. Tatis' mother shared the video on her Instagram stories.
In addition to the exceptional offensive contributions, Fernando Tatis also shined in defense, along with Jackson Merrill and Jurickson Profar.
Profar robbed Mookie Betts of a homer in the bottom of the first inning. Tatis showed off his athleticism with an acrobatic catch off Freddie Freeman on a pitch from Yu Darvish in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jackson Merrill also showed off his athleticism in the bottom of the sixth inning by catching a fly ball from Enrique Hernandez.
