Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman has left the club in free agency after agreeing to a $33 million, three-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. The deal was announced Friday, just two days after his 32nd birthday.

This marks the end of Hoffman’s two-season tenure with the Phillies, who re-signed him to a one-year, $2.2 million deal last offseason. Hoffman went 3-3 with a 2.17 ERA and recorded 10 saves in 2024 for the Phillies, who finished as the National League’s best regular-season team but fell to the New York Mets in the NLDS.

On Sunday, Jeff Hoffman shared his feelings about his departure from the Phillies in a heartfelt Instagram post, as he and his family bid farewell to the club.

"Philly, I’ve been trying to find the words for a while now. But I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express how much the last two years have meant to my family and I," Hoffman wrote in the caption.
"You gave me new life. I loved every second of it, the cheers, the boos, and everything in between. I felt how much winning meant to you and didn’t ever want to let you down."

He also expressed regret for not delivering a championship to Philadelphia.

"I’m sorry we didn’t accomplish our goal. Thank you to the entire Phillies organization from top to bottom for creating such a special environment to work in and thank you, Philadelphia, for giving us something that is so hard to say goodbye to."

In the comments section of Hoffman’s post, first baseman Bryce Harper's wife Kayla shared a four-word reaction:

"Gonna miss this fam."

Jeff Hoffman excited for his journey in Toronto

In addition to thanking the Phillies, Jeff Hoffman also expressed his excitement about joining the Toronto Blue Jays and his high hopes of bringing a World Series title to the city.

"Toronto!!!!! Thank you Jays fans for the warm welcome! I’m ready for this next chapter and pumped to make The Six our home. There is one goal. It is to bring a World Series back to Toronto. Let’s get to work!" Hoffman said in his post.

Interestingly, many may not be aware that the Blue Jays selected the reliever ninth overall in the 2014 amateur draft. They traded him to the Colorado Rockies in 2015.
