For almost close to a decade now, Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez has been one of the most underrated players in the majors. There have been several times early in his career that he's overlooked by pundits and the media as the top talent in his position due to him playing for a smaller market team.
However, the opinion on his pedigree and value has been changing recently. In the most recent edition of the MLB Network's Top 10 rankings per position, Ramirez bagged the No.1 spot ahead of peers such as Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman and Manny Machado on the hot corner. This warranted a celebration from the third base star on Instagram.
Jose Ramirez placed GOAT emojis on the replies of the post wherein he was named as the best third baseman in the game per MLB Network. It was the Cleveland star's fourth time as the network's top pick in third base.
The third baseman certainly has a reason to dub himself as the greatest third baseman — at least for his generation. He has time and again stepped up for the team and has pushed them to several postseason campaigns.
Ramirez has been a vital cog for Cleveland every season starting in 2016 when he became a regular starter in third base and was a key piece to the squad's World Series run before ultimately falling short against the Chicago Cubs.
Jose Ramirez's stellar 2024 season
For the fifth straight season, Ramirez finished in the top 10 of the American League MVP race. The 32-year-old put up another sensational year in 2024 that merited him his fourth-straight All-Star nod and the fifth Silver Slugger Award of his career.
The Dominican star posted .279/.335/.537 slash with 118 RBIs and an OPS of .872. His tremendous play generated 6.8 fWAR at third base. Ramirez was also just a home run away from being the latest member of the famed 40-40 club as he finished the year with 39 homers and 41 stolen bases.
Although the Guardians lost Andres Gimenez to Toronto, it would not be surprising to see the club embark on another strong run in the postseason as they did in 2024 anchored by Ramirez's stellar play.
