While it might seem eons away, the 2025 MLB Draft will be here sooner than you know it. Already, MLB teams have begun to produce in-depth scouting reports regarding their priorities and areas of interest for next year's selection process.
While many of the soon-to-be draft picks are still playing baseball in college or high school, they have certainly started to make a name for themselves. Today, we will be examining some names expected to be selected high in the 2025 MLB Draft order.
Five 2025 MLB Draft Prospects To Watch
5. Cam Cannarella, Clemson
Cam Cannarella of Clemson University is a center fielder with a pop in his bat. In his sophomore season at Clemson, Cannarella hit .337/.417/.561 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs for his college in his home state of South Carolina.
An ACC Freshman of the Year after his first college ball season, Cannarella has been identified by Baseball America as a high-first round pick probability for the 2025 MLB Draft.
4. Chase Shores, LSU
Chase Shores is a product of the LSU pitching program that help mould Pittsburgh Pirates rookie sensation Paul Skenes. Standing at 6-foot-8 and 240 lbs, Shores' imposing presence contributes to an average fastball velocity of 97 miles per hour. Last season at LSU, the 19-year-old allowed four earned runs in 18.1 innings, giving him an ERA figure of just 1.96.
"Its absurd how normal 100 mph is now... after Skenes, Chase Shores comes in pumping 99 after 99 and hits 100 on this K." - 11Point7 College Baseball
3. Jace LaViolette, Texas A&M
Texas A&M utility outfielder Jace LaViolette was named a freshman All-American as well as a SEC All-Freshman after his first season of college ball. After playing last summer in the Cape Cod League, the stocky outfielder brought things to the next level.
"Jace LaViolette has been talking with Tony V - according to Ben McKee. This man would own college baseball if we could get him in Orange and White" - Channel TN
Compared to Aaron Judge for his size and power, LaViolette ripped 29 home runs and 78 RBIs in 68 games last season. Additionally, his commendable .305 average means that LaViolette is coveted by many clubs in the runup to the 2025 MLB Draft.
2. Coy James, Davie High School (North Carolina)
Coy James of Advance, North Carolina is lit it up in his final year of high school. Before committing to Ole Miss, the shortstop hit .457 in 32 games. As the 2024 MLB Draft saw a lack of high schoolers, watch out for Coy James, who has drawn comparisons to Trea Turner, to be selected pretty quickly next year.
1. Ethan Holliday, Stillwater High School (Oklahoma)
Another name who is still in high school, Ethan Holliday has a serious chance of becoming the first first-overall pick out of high school since his older brother Jackson was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in 2022.
