Juan Soto has been a huge help to Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees. He has taken a lot of the pressure off the former AL Rookie of the Year to perform and has the team looking fierce.
They currently sit atop the American League East, one game ahead of the Baltimore Orioles. However, there are some concerns regarding Soto's future in the Bronx.
He is working on a one-year deal and will be a free agent following the season's end. Soto will be looking for a mega contract, which could put the Yanks in a tough spot. Sports radio legend Chris 'Mad Dog' Russo talked about the situation recently on WFAN. (Start at 3:35)
"It's going to be very interesting to see what they do with Soto, because Judge is making whatever he is making and Soto, who is represented by Boras is going to want $600 million, and if you're Steinbrenner, can you pay him that much more than you pay Judge?," said Russo.
Judge has meant a tremendous deal to those in the Bronx and is the rarely-appointed captain of the Yanks. Would Steinbrenner be comfortable paying someone else much more money?
"The Yankees can't lose him, but it's a little tricky with Judge being your guy at $360 million and Soto is going to want Ohtani money" said Russo.
While the Bronx Bombers have a World Series in their sights this season, this could become a distraction. However, Soto is a professional and knows what is on the line this season.
Juan Soto's future with the Yankees is uncertain
Juan Soto is one of the hottest players in baseball and will be the talk of free agency. He is still young and is a player that any team in the league could build around.
He will attract plenty of teams, but which teams may be interested? The New York Post's Jon Heyman breaks down some of the teams that could be in contact with Soto's agent during the offseason.
Heyman points to the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets as two of the most likely teams. Many believe both New York teams could have a bidding war over the winter.
It will be interesting to follow Soto once the season comes to an end. He will have plenty of options to play next season, the question is, where will it be?
