San Diego Padres have reportedly offered outfielder Jurickson Profar a one-year, $8 million deal with an optional second year and a pay raise, according to sportscaster Lee Hacksaw Hamilton.

The 31-year-old veteran, coming off one of the best seasons of his career with the Padres, is rumored to be looking for a three-year deal worth around $45 million. While Profar's initial talks with the San Diego front office didn't bear fruit, Hamilton reported some new developments in his podcast on Tuesday:

"I've been told the Padres have gone back, talked to Jurickson Profar and are willing to offer him one year, with a second year option with a pay bump. But they're not gonna go from $1.5 to $15 million that Scott Boras wants. They're willing to go $1.5 to $8 million, with an option, which sounds feasable to me if the Padres can afford a $8 million deal."

Jurickson Profar was signed by the Texas Rangers in 2009 and made his major league debut in 2012. After bouncing in and out of the majors in the next few years, he was traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2019. After a short stint there, he spent three seasons with the Padres, followed by one session with the Rockies before returning to San Diego for a second stint last year.

Profar had his best season to date, winning a Silver Slugger award and earning his first All-Star selection. Entering free agency on a high note, he is represented by Scott Boras and is reportedly seeking a $15 million deal.

While several teams have shown interest, no concrete developments have emerged. In the meantime, the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals have been linked to Profar this winter.

MLB insider names Jurickson Profar as one of the potential alternatives to Pete Alonso for the Mets

While Jurickson Profar is coming off a strong season, another free agent outfielder with a similar market is Pete Alonso. The New York Mets have yet to reach an extension agreement with Alonso, and time is running out. They might soon need to look for alternatives. SNY's Andy Martino has named Jurickson Profar as a potential replacement.

Profar played primarily as an outfielder last season and delivered several strong defensive performances. According to Martino, Profar could potentially split his time between second base and the outfield if he were to join the Mets' star-studded lineup.
