The New York Yankees' pre-Midsummer Classic slump is seemingly continuing after the All-Star break. After winning their first game post-break, they have now dropped two in a row against the Tampa Bay Rays.

After starting the game scoreless against the Rays’ pitchers on Sunday, the Yankees offense brought in some runs in the last couple of innings. Aaron Judge hit a 444-foot homer, his 35th of the season, in the seventh inning to bring in three runs. However, it wasn't enough as New York lost, 6-4.

Juan Soto’s RBI double in the ninth allowed Ben Rice to score a run for the Bronx Bombers. Yankees fans reacted to their team’s loss on X/Twitter with many blaming their offense's reliance on Judge and Soto.

“Judge and Soto can’t do it all. Gleyber is abysmal, we don’t have a 3B, and we gotta stop giving up HRs,” a fan said.

Many fans continued to share their reaction with some discussing the team’s lack of performance except for Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.

“This game is a perfect example of how Aaron Judge and Juan Soto can’t continue to be expected to carry the team. Other guys have to step up, or Cashman has to make some big trades at the deadline,” a comment reads.

“It’s bad we don’t have a legit DH that we need to have Judge there and stuck with a weak hitting centerfielder,” another comment reads.
“Sell the team for a base hitter and keep Judge and Soto,” someone wrote.

Against the Rays on Sunday, the New York Yankees offense recorded nine hits -- five from Judge and Soto -- on 34 at-bats with four RBIs, and six walks with seven strikeouts.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone discusses his fifth ejection of the 2024 season during Rays loss

Before the seventh inning of Sunday’s game, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected by plate umpire Edwin Jimenez, marking his fifth ejection of the season.

Boone yelled from the dugout after Alex Verdugo was called out on a pitch that seemed low, which led to the ejection.

“Obviously an emotional time. You understand the frustration, so more just trying to be a distraction in that situation,” Boone said on his ejection (via AP News).

The Yankees will face the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday at the Yankee Stadium in the final game of their four-game series.
