Since taking office on Monday as the 47th president of the United States of America, Donald Trump is hoping to make good on the public support he received. Among them, Chicago Cubs pitcher Justin Steele's wife Libby wants the president-elect to change focus.
On Wednesday, Libby went onto social media asking the Trump administration to rather focus on issues like Lyme disease and other public concerns than "changing the Gulf of Mexico's name."
A patient herself, Libby's post on Wednesday threw light on Lyme disease, which is a bacterial infection caused by the bite of an infected tick. A bacteria named Borrelia burgdorferi is the cause.
Libby tagged President Trump and Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. aka RFK Jr., who is the nominee for United States Secretary of Health and Human Services.
"@realdonaldtrump @robertfkennedyjr !!! Instead of changing the gulf of Mexicos name let's attack real issues like this debilitating disease crippling millions!!!" Libby wrote in her post.
The post that Libby reacted to referred to Lyme disease as "The Quiet Epidemic":
"In 1975, Lyme disease was first recognized and named after a small town in Connecticut. 50 years later, people around the world still lack access to accurate diagnostics and effective treatments. We need policymakers to intervene. Let's #MakeLymeLoud @thequietepidemic THE QUIET EPIDEMIC."
Justin Steele and Libby going strong in the face of illness
Justin Steele has stood by Libby in the wake of learning that she has Lyme disease, which she first thought was a result of exhaustion following the birth of their child, Beau.
A report from the Chicago Tribune claimed that Libby has to take over 40 supplements a day to keep up and help her immune system fight off the bacteria that caused the disease in the first place.
The couple celebrated their first anniversary on Jan. 6 as Libby penned a heartfelt note for the Cubs ace who has supported her throughout the ordeal.
"Happy anniversary to my love," Libby wrote. "The man who has stuck by my side through all the hard days, all the sick days. The days that aren’t so glamorous and fun to be around. He fell in love with a completely different human, yet he still is by my side, his love hasn’t wavered.
"He still shows up for our family even on the painful days, the days full of needles, doctors appointments and tears... we have been through more than couples experience in a lifetime, and we’re still here. Thank you for loving me through it all."
Despite the adversity, the couple has made sure to enjoy their life with their son Beau, who was born in July 2022.
