Exactly a year ago, Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Justin Steele tied the knot with longtime partner Libby on Jan. 6. The couple got married in a lakefront ceremony at Three Lakes Manor.
The couple has faced multiple challenges in the lead-up to their marriage, including Libby's illness. On the occasion of their first wedding anniversary, Libby shared a heartfelt tribute for the Cubs ace, accompanying a series of pictures of the duo.
"Happy anniversary to my love," Libby wrote. "The man who has stuck by my side through all the hard days, all the sick days. The days that aren’t so glamorous and fun to be around. He fell in love with a completely different human, yet he still is by my side, his love hasn’t wavered. He still shows up for our family even on the painful days, the days full of needles, doctors appointments and tears… we have been through more than couples experience in a lifetime, and we’re still here."
Libby has been battling chronic Lyme disease. It began as what she thought was simple exhaustion after the birth of their son, Beau, and escalated into a life-altering condition. Lyme disease, along with multiple coinfections, has brought debilitating symptoms like dizziness, brain fog, fatigue and significant weight loss.
"Thank you for loving me through it all. I can’t wait till we are old and grey sitting on our front porch laughing about all this chaos one day. I’ll forever be grateful for you, grateful for your unconditional love, support and patience," she continued.
Libby also reflected on the beautiful memories they've made, even in the face of illness.
"With all the sick days, we manage to still create beautiful memories with our son," she added. "We have a beautiful life and we owe it all to you. Thank you for your hard work & discipline to provide for us, allow me to get the best possible healthcare. I love you, our life & our family. Forever ♾️ cheers to many more!"
Justin Steele reverts back with love, celebrating 1st wedding anniversary
In the face of adversity, Justin Steele and Libby have remained strong with their love. The Cubs ace expressed his love while sharing an anniversary tribute to his wife on Instagram.
"Happy 1 year anniversary to my best friend. Here’s to many more my love. Don’t know what our family would do without you my angel. You’re the rock and foundation of our family and we would be lost without you baby. Hope every year continues to just get better and better. Til Death ❤️ I love you baby," Steele wrote in his caption.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Libby and Steele initially thought to postpone their wedding on Jan. 6 last year, but when Libby bought the wedding dress, the couple made the commitment official.
The same report also said that Libby takes 40 supplements a day to help her immune system fight the bacteria that cause Lyme disease and coinfections.
