Jarren Duran's "F*CK EM" mentality might have got him in trouble with the league's discipline issues in the past. But it served as a motivation for one fan, who penned a heartfelt tribute for the Boston Red Sox outfielder.
A fan named Victoria, battling cancer, revealed the profound impact Duran's motto has had on her life through a post on Friday. Duran became Victoria's hero, thanks to his surprise visits and check-ins during her surgeries.
The story caught the attention of fellow former Red Sox star Justin Turner, who responded with a simple but impactful message:
"Love this."
Victoria's emotional tribute to Jarren Duran
For Jarren Duran, the words "F*CK 'EM" serve as a personal mantra — a rallying cry to overcome adversity and silence doubt. For Victoria, those words became a source of inspiration in her battle with cancer.
She penned a long tribute directed towards the outfielder:
"From the first day we met the Red Sox’ Jarren Duran, Victoria undisputedly became his new, biggest fan. He was humbled to hear about her cancer journey, and she watched every game, all the while learning.
The bond deepened on Tuesday, July 16. On that summer day, Victoria underwent her second surgery while Duran played in the MLB All-Star Game.
"She woke up just in time to watch her hero shine," the tribute said.
Duran won the game’s MVP award, holding a Stand Up 2 Cancer sign with Victoria’s name on it.
"We all cried when we realized he was playing in her honor. She had found a hero in him, but he had found his own in her. He always checked in to see how her surgeries went, and no words could express how much his surprise visits meant to us."
The quote "F*** EM" made headlines after Jarren Duran wore a T-shirt with the motto on it during a live interview. MLB warned him not to wear it again or face consequences for not abiding by the league's rules.
Not bothered with the fine or anything that comes along, Duran hit back at the league:
"That would be a fine I'd be happy to pay. It’s just me wearing something that means a lot to me."
Whether or not MLB is happy about his motto, one fan seems to have found it inspiring.
