Star outfielder Juan Soto entered free agency after spending the entire 2024 season with the New York Yankees. While many speculated that Soto would join the Yankees, he decided to sign a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets, according to MLB.

It is the largest sports contract in MLB history, a record previously held by Shohei Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers last season. Congratulations poured in for Soto on his record-breaking contract, including from Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero.

Guerrero took to Instagram and shared an image featuring him and Juan Soto with the caption:

“Congratulations Soto! you made history 🔥💰. The biggest contract in sports is no chance, it’s hard work, talent and dedication. Keep flying our flag high!. 🇩🇴⚾️" Guerrero wrote.

Vladimir Guerrero recorded nine All-Star selections and won eight Silver Slugger awards during his 16-season MLB career, playing as a right fielder and designated hitter. He made his last major league appearance in 2011 with the Baltimore Orioles.

Guerrero’s son, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is also a seasoned player who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays and is set to hit free agency after the 2025 season.

MLB insider suggests Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could get a boost in next year’s free agency after Juan Soto’s contract

Several teams, including the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, and even the Toronto Blue Jays, pursued Juan Soto following his stellar 2024 season. With Soto signing a record-breaking deal with the New York Mets, Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. might also have reason to celebrate.

MLB insider Bob Nightengale suggests that Guerrero Jr. could see an increase in his market value after Soto’s deal, writing:

“The man who woke up a whole richer this morning without doing a thing? Say hello to Vladimir Guerrero Jr, the prize of next year’s free agent class. The price tag soars after Juan Soto’s record 15-year, $765 million deal.”

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had an exceptional 2024 season with the Blue Jays, recording a .323 batting average, hitting 30 home runs, driving in 103 RBIs, and achieving a .940 OPS.
