On Thursday, Arizona Diamondbacks superstar Ketel Marte took to Instagram to share a post featuring his former teammate, Emmanuel Rivera, as he hit a home run while playing in his home country of Puerto Rico.
"El mio," Marte captioned his Instagram story, which means 'My Guy' in English.
The video that Marte reshared to his story was originally uploaded by the Indios de Mayagüez, for whom Rivera is currently playing to keep himself match-fit in the offseason months. The Indios de Mayagüez play in the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente, the highest level of professional baseball in Puerto Rico.
Both Emmanuel Rivera and Ketel Marte shared the dressing room when Rivera was a part of the Arizona Diamondbacks squad for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Looking at Marte's recent social media story, it appears the pair formed quite a strong bond in their time together, and are still great friends despite no longer playing together.
Marte is still a key part of the Diamondbacks lineup, while Rivera now plays for the Baltimore Orioles.
Ketel Marte takes to Instagram to celebrate the new year
On January 1, two-time All-Star Ketel Marte took to Instagram to post a message, as he wished fans the best for the new year.
"God first of all happy 2025 to everyone with God always blessings," Marte captioned his Instagram post in Spanish.
On the field, Ketel Marte had a superb 2024 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 31-year-old finished the regular season with a .292 batting average and .932 OPS, along with 36 home runs and 95 RBIs.
The Dominican's outstanding performances were duly rewarded, as he earned his second career All-Star selection. He also finished third in NL MVP voting behind Los Angeles Dodgers DH Shohei Ohtani and New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor.
However, Marte's season was unfortunately derailed at the most crucial of junctures, after he suffered an ankle injury after awkwardly colliding with Philadelphia Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs back in August. With Marte facing a spell on the sidelines, the Diamondbacks' form took a hit.
Eventually, they paid the ultimate price, missing out on qualification to the postseason by the barest of margins, on the last day of the regular season.
