Kodai Senga claps upon the latest signing by his team, the New York Mets, as they bring back Sean Manaea on a three-year, $75 million deal. The deal was reportedly finalized on Friday, pending a successful physical.
The Mets, who are going all out this season, are adding crucial pieces to the roster while retaining the core, hoping the blockbuster signing of Juan Soto on a record-breaking deal could result in a World Series title in 2025.
Senga, another top starting arm for the Mets, was happy to learn about Manaea's return. He reposted the graphic of the same with an applauding (clap) emoji on Instagram.
Mets president expects Sean Manaea to flourish following latest signing
Sean Manaea was one of the top arms for the Mets in the 2024 season that saw the team make the 2024 NLCS before losing against the LA Dodgers in six games.
Manaea went 12-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 32 outings. His incredible season led him to pursue free agency, leading him to the decline player option ($13.5 million) and also the $21.05 million qualifying offer.
After locking the ace pitcher for three years, Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns expects big things to come.
“Sean was an integral part of what the team accomplished last season,” Stearns said in a statement. “He impressed on the field leading the rotation and in the clubhouse with his character, attitude, and composure. I am excited to watch him continue to flourish over the next few years.”
The Mets have been on a spending spree this offseason, starting with Juan Soto's record 15-year, $765 million deal, followed by four more free agent starting pitcher signings, which include Frankie Montas ($34 million, two years), Clay Holmes ($38 million, three years) and Griffin Canning ($4.25 million, one year).
Five players have signed with the Mets ownership splurging $916.25 million on five free agents already. Sean Manaea will join Montas, Holmes, Kodai Senga and David Peterson to lead the starting rotation next year.
