Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, and Joey Gallo all share something in common. The trio of sluggers were born and raised in the Las Vegas area, and all three are close in age.
Throughout the years, the trio played with and against each other and grew into intriguing prospects. However, it would be Harper who would get most of the shine coming up.
Now, all three sluggers have made great careers in the big leagues. In a recent interview, Bryant reflected on growing up in Las Vegas and watching his friends develop into the players they are now with Chris Henderson.
"Growing up, I used to watch Joey [Gallo] in my backyard hitting balls in the cage with my dad, watching Bryce [Harper] do his thing, going to college early too. Just really impressed to see what we could all accomplish on the biggest stage," said Bryant.
Bryant, Harper, and Gallo are not just your typical players; they have been some of the top sluggers in the league over the last few years. Between the three, they have played in 14 All-Star games.
While Harper gets most of the attention, you cannot overlook what Bryant and Gallo have done over the years.
Kris Bryant reflects on his World Series win with the Cubs
Later in the interview, Henderson asked Kris Bryant how he felt when he broke the curse and helped the Chicago Cubs win a World Series in 2016. It was a great feeling, and he made a pretty bold claim.
"I guess I'm a little bias, but it's got to be one of the most important championships of all-time just concerning the fact that there was such a long period inbetween championships," said Bryant.
He has a point. The Cubs were suffering from a 108-year drought, the longest occurrence in all major sports leagues in the United States and Canada.
"It was just a fun run. Really cool to do it with a lot of guys that I came through the minor leagues with. We just had a great run there and a memory that I'll never forget," said Bryant.
While it is hard to make the big leagues, it is even harder to secure a World Series ring. Bryant will have that ring to remember just what he and the Cubs did during their magical run during the 2016 season.
