Houston Astros star Kyle Tucker has shared a positive update on his recovery from a shin injury. The slugger suffered the injury after getting hit by a foul ball during the team's clash against the St. Louis Cardinals on June 3 and has been out ever since.
According to MLB insider Chandler Rome, the three-time All-Star said he is getting better and will be back soon. However, Tucker is avoiding rushing things as he is still not at 100%, and might risk another new injury.
"Yeah, you could probably put me out there today and I'd do a decent job, but at the same time, I don't want to go out there for a game or two and get hurt. You have to be conscious of that and build up your running and strength and conditioning side of things."
Tucker also mentioned that he feels relatively pain-free but there's still some tightness and soreness. He said that the situation is currently fluid. He and the team are discussing various options some of which involve completely skipping a rehab assignment.
As the regular season heads into its final month, it would be a great boost for the Astros to get Kyle Tucker back before the playoffs, as he could be a key figure for the team in its attempt to achieve its World Series dream this season.
Astros' Joe Espada shares encouraging news on Kyle Tucker's condition
Houston Astros manager Joe Espada has also shared an encouraging report on Kyle Tucker's recovery from his shin injury.
"There's still a small limp, but he says he feels it less, especially in the outfield drills, the throwing to home plate, the moving around, the accuracy of his throws, the strength behind each throw, that looked really good."
Before being sidelined, the 27-year-old outfielder played 60 games this season, hitting .266, with an OPS of .979, 19 HRs, and 40 RBIs.
The Astros are 72-62 and have a four-game lead atop the American League West.
