Pete Alonso is currently searching for a new team to play for during the 2025 season. Alonso, now a free agent, has spent his entire career with the New York Mets up to this point, playing in 846 games with the team. New York has not yet re-signed him, but there's a chance a deal could get done with him before spring training begins in February.

Vince Cotroneo, who covers the Mets for the MLB Network, made a pitch to the front office to bring back Alonso on Thursday on Sirius XM.

"Let's get this job done, and let's get it done now," Cotroneo said.

For every day that goes by, it increases the chance that another team will swoop in and sign the slugging first baseman.

More analysts predict Pete Alonso to the Mets

Pete Alonso said goodbye to Mets fans at the end of the 2024 season, and it appeared that he would be wearing a new uniform in 2025. That hasn't happened yet, and some MLB insiders are starting to believe that there just isn't a market for Alonso.

MLB analyst Connor Rogers recently predicted on the Mets Pod that Alonso would be coming back to the Mets:

"I think we're nearing a territory right now unless the Mets have something up their sleeve in free agency Pete Alonso could be back on a three- to four-year deal, and the number might start below $100 million at this point."

The New York Mets were not willing to give Pete Alonso a massive contract at the end of the 2024 season, but the team might be able to get him back on a bargain deal. New York recently signed Juan Soto to a deal that was worth $765 million, but owner Steve Cohen is someone who never stops spending money.

Alonso did hit just .240 during the 2024 season, but he still belted 34 home runs. If no other team is able to sign Alonso, a return to the Mets appears likely.
