Ever since his 2023 season in Japan wrapped up last year, Trevor Bauer has been on a mission for a shiny, new MLB contract. Recently, the controversial pitcher has found himself being called out by fans after mixing postulating a controversial question over a record that he supposedly held.
In early 2022, the MLB handed Bauer a 324-game suspension on account of sexual assault claims that had allegedly occured nearly a year earlier during a sexual encounter that began as consensual. Bauer never faced charges over the ordeal, and his suspension was later shortened to 194 games.
After pitching for NPB's Yokohama DeNA BayStars in 2023, Trevor Bauer hoped to get an MLB contract. Despite being eligible, no teams have signed the 33-year-old. Despite his pariah status among MLB clubs, international ball clubs seem to harbor no such qualms about signing the ace.
"Update on this. It appears our initial research was wrong and Julio Franco also did this, but I am the first pitcher and first American born player to do it. Regardless, I’m still excited to post the vlog for y’all!" - BauerOutage
On Friday, Trevor Bauer posted a claim on X claiming a bold record for himself. The Los Angeles-native has been playing in the Mexican League for El Diablos Rojos since the start of the season, and was recently named an All-Star to the league.
Having been named an MLB All-Star with the 2018 Cleveland Indians, Bauer claimed that along with his NPB All-Star status, he was the only pitcher to date to have been granted All-Star status in MLB.
After the proof came out that that was not the case, and Dominican Julio Franco has already ascertained the feat, fans took to the comments to scorn Trevor Bauer.
"Pretty cool stat. Time to get back into the MLB!"
"Please find your way back into the league brotha!"
"Your him"
"I voted for you last year in Japan"
Although some fans were clearly taking aim at Bauer, many others rushed to the defense of Bauer, who owned a 8-5 record and a 2.59 ERA when he last played in an MLB game as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers in June 2021.
Trevor Bauer remains unapologetically outspoken
In his quest to find a suitor, Bauer recently made another strong claim for himself:
"There’s not a single mlb team out there that has 3 starters better than me. Let alone 5. And I’m as cheap or cheaper than any of them since I’m willing to play for the minimum."
Not known to be one to shy away from controversy, teams will need to continue asking themselves if his skill might be worthy of the unwanted attention.
