Earlier this season, Steven Kwan and the Cleveland Guardians were treated to a postgame concert by NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal. The former center set the tone with a DJ set, something he had been doing over the last few years.
Shaq has taken this new gig pretty seriously, traveling all across the United States with multiple other artists. He is currently getting ready for a festival in Texas in November.
The Guardians were allowed to watch the postgame concert, but Kwan was eventually pushed to the stage. With a Jamaican beef patty in hand, he details how he ended up there via a recent airing of MLB Office Hours.
"Bo and Josh [Naylor's] whole family was there and they handmade Jamaican beef patties. I've never had them before, but heard great stories about them. Bo comes out and goes, 'Bro, you got to try these,'" Kwan said.
After getting his patty, he followed his teammates as Shaq invited them onto the stage. While Kwan was trying to eat his meal out of sight, he was pushed front and center:
"So, I run up. I thought I was just going to be like chilling in the corner, like eating, and then I get pushed to the front and I got all these crumbs coming up."
After the set, he got to meet Shaq, who is a giant compared to Kwan. But to be fair, Shaq makes most people look tiny.
"I gave him a dap up and then his hand enveloped me like a dad holding onto their newborn son," Kwan said.
Steven Kwan speaks on what makes Aaron Judge elite
Steven Kwan was an All-Star for the first time in his career this year. Being in the American League, he was able to be teammates with Aaron Judge for a game, and he was more than impressed:
"He's so big and strong, but able to move so athletically and smoothly at the same time. I feel like those kind of things really shouldn't go together."
While Judge hits home runs left and right, he can also move for a big guy. Most players his size are usually limited to a designated hitter role, especially with both leagues now having a DH.
Kwan may have picked up a thing or two after watching Judge in the ASG. He has 13 home runs under his belt this season, far exceeding his previous career-high of six.
