On Monday, MLB analysts Sean Casey and Rich Ciancimino talked about the Philadelphia Phillies vs New York Mets showdown in the NLDS. The Phillies come are coming off a bye week, while the New Mets bested the Milwaukee Brewers in a thrilling wildcard series to arrive at this juncture.
Sean Casey himself had quite a successful career in the big leagues, boasting a healthy .302 batting average for his career as a whole. The New Jersey native played in the major leagues for 11 years, representing the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. Casey is a three-time All-Star in the Reds' Hall of Fame.
On Tuesday's edition of "The Mayor's Office with Sean Casey," Rich Ciancimino talked about how evenly matched Rob Thompson's Phillies and Carlos Mendoza's Mets are.
"It's scary how well they (Phillies and Mets) are matched with each other. It's punch-counter punch. It's like Rocky and Apollo when they hit each other at the exact same time, it's really who's going to have more shots." Ciancimino said [9:50].
"If they had kept playing this game, each team was going to continue to score until somebody just fell asleep, they were just that evenly matched. Two great managers, this is a really cool matchup. The National League series is up in the air right now," Ciancimino said [10:12].
Philadelphia Phillies walk off Game 2, NLDS tied heading to New York
On Sunday, the Philadelphia Phillies won Game 2 of the NLDS against the New York Mets 7-6 at Citizens Bank Park. Sunday's game was perhaps the biggest one of the Phillies' season so far, and the hosts edged it in the bottom of the ninth as Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off single to left field to win the game and tie up the series at one a piece.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Phils were three down with time running out. Back-to-back homers from superstar Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos brought the game back to level terms. Right after, Brandon Nimmo hit a solo home run to give the visitors the lead again, before RBIs from Bryson Stott and JT Realmuto turned the game again, giving the hosts a two-run lead going into the ninth.
The Mets punched back, with the excellent Mark Vientos hitting his second two-run home run of the day to tie the game up in the bottom of the ninth, allowing Castellanos to step up and be the hero.
The next two games of this impossible to predict, rollercoaster of a series will be played in CitiField, with the 5th game, if needed, to take place back in Philadelphia.
