It seems luck is not with the New York Yankees. In Saturday's second clash against Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, the Yankees failed to take the lead despite having an optimum situation to score runs in the first inning.

Ben Rice and Aaron Judge reached a scoring position with only one out, making it a perfect opportunity to take the early lead. However, Alex Verdugo failed to follow and got struck out in his first at-bat, forcing Rice and Judge to take a chance during Gleyber Torres’ at-bat.

They attempted a double steal of the Blue Jays’ catcher Alejandro Kirk with one out remaining. The third-base umpire, Clint Vondrak, called Rice safe at the 3B. However, the Blue Jays challenged the play, and the on-field decision was ruled out. Rice was declared out with a failed steal attempt.

This incident enraged Yankees fans as their team failed to secure the first run. They picked social media to voice their distress over the decision, as they believed it was a bad call.

“Literally worst call all year,” a fan commented.
"Nonsense. Wasn't enough to overturn the call," a fan replied.
"Looked safe to me. Not enough to overturn IMO," a fan tweeted.

Since missing the opportunity, the Blue Jays took the lead with Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s two-run homer and added one more run before the Yankees got their first run. At the top of the seventh inning, the Blue Jays are leading the game with an 8-1 score.

"Every call thats tough to overturn is always overturned with us. Cant make it up smh," a fan tweeted.
"Angel Hernandez must be the replay umpire!" a fan commented.
"Feels like every review that “doesn’t have enough to overturn” has gone against the Yankees," a fan tweeted.

If the Yankees lose today, the series will be tied and the teams would have to clash in Sunday’s series-deciding finale before stepping into the new month.

The Yankees are struggling as the playoffs draw closer

It was surprising for the Yankees to end their month in such an uninspiring way. They started the month with a winning streak and continued for the first five games before tasting their first series loss in June to the Dodgers.

They briefly bounced back with a sweep against Kansas City, but since then, they suffered badly against the Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, halting their hot streak for a while.

The Yankees have a 13-12 record In June, which is far worse than their 21-7 record in May. As the playoffs draw closer, everyone is buckling up to clinch a spot. As of now, the Bombers are just one win ahead of the O’s, who are on a three-game win streak. If the Yankees don't hold their ground, the AL East table might change by the start of July.
