Triston Casas has not played in a long while for the Boston Red Sox. He's been injured and out of the lineup, but he has found a way to keep himself busy. While his teammates await his return, they can get interviewed by him as he is currently a sideline reporter for NESN, the local broadcast network for the team.
Casas looked like a natural as he peppered Domonic Smith with questions and anecdotes. He led into a question after the game with the experience of a veteran reporter, and Smith couldn't help but smile the entire time.
His cadence was exactly that of a sideline reporter, and Smith gave good answers to the questions that Casas came up with. It's unclear how much time he had to prepare the questions, but they came naturally to him. It had fans wondering when he might pursue this opportunity full-time.
"Triston is a natural with the mic," another added.
"That was the greatest NESN interview in history," one said.
"Casas is a natural with interviews and commentation, but I want to see him playing again (even though Dom is doing great!!), and then he can move to the media after his career… but it’s great in the meantime," one noted.
"I’m telling you, he has such a future ahead of him as a broadcaster," one insisted.
Casas is a fan favorite that most would love to see back on the field despite Smith's success as his replacement. However, if he can't immediately, they'll be happy to watch his sideline work in the meantime.
Triston Casas continues to work towards a return
While everyone is enjoying Triston Casas' work as a sideline reporter, his actual job is to be an MLB player. More specifically, it's to be the Boston Red Sox's first baseman.
According to the latest update, he is set to take swings on a tee soon. He's been swinging the bat since June 26 but will upgrade to hitting balls off a tee soon. That's a major step, but he's still some way away from a return presently.
