The Los Angeles Dodgers are down a shortstop this season after Gavin Lux tore his ACL on the basepaths in Monday's game. He took an awkward step as he ran to third base.
Luckily, the team made a move to acquire Miguel Rojas from the Miami Marlins before the season. He'll get the bulk of the action at shortstop. The team seems to feel good about who they have at the position.
The Dodgers have second baseman Miguel Vargas and Max Muncy, who can take over for Rojas if need be. They also have Chris Taylor and Mookie Betts, who could play the position if the team needed them to.
Fans want to see the team make a move for a more established shortstop. While Rojas is a capable infielder, he's not who they were expecting to be the team's everyday shortstop.
"We're gonna miss the playoffs if he waits to fix it," one fan tweeted.
"The fact that Lux still hasn't hit his potential means they probably already had replacements in mind if he struggled," another fan tweeted.
Other fans aren't too worried about Rojas at shortstop. Being a veteran, they think he'll do just fine.
Fans who aren't comfortable with the lineup right now would love to see the team make a move. They're throwing names out like O'Neil Cruz, Willy Adames and Tim Anderson. It wouldn't surprise many if the Dodgers did acquire any of the three.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be an interesting team this year
The Los Angeles Dodgers took a bit of a hit in the offseason. They lost All-Star shortstop Trea Turner in free agency. Turner signed an 11-year, $300 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Turner was not just one of the best shortstops in the league but one of the best players in the league overall.
Players like Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts will look to step up this season and carry the team. They'll be at the forefront of any success the team sees this season.
Aside from Freeman and Betts, the Dodgers have a solid starting pitching rotation. Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urias, Tony Gonsolin, Noah Syndergaard and Dustin May round out a rotation that could be one of the best in baseball.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be interesting to follow this year. Will they be the same dominant team we have seen over the last couple of years, or will they take a step back?
