Dodgers manager Dave Roberts sent Landon Knack to the mound as their starter in the opener, while the Padres had Michael King go up against Knack. Shohei Ohtani got to an early start with a ground-rule double while Mookie helped to send him home. The Boys in Blue recorded an early 1-0 lead.
The Padres responded with a two-run home run at the top of the second. King had the bases loaded but worked his way around the jam by striking out Mookie Betts in the bottom of the second inning.
The Padres extended their lead to 3-1 in the top of the third inning with an RBI single by Xander Bogaerts. Jake Cronenworth recorded another RBI double in the top of the fourth as the Padres took a 4-1 lead.
The Padres gave up another run at the bottom of the ninth as Kike Hernandez drove in Will Smith. However, the Padres made an excellent triple play to get all three runners out.

Jake Cronenworth hit a home run tonight
Jake Cronenworth put the Padres on the board with a two-run home run deep to right field. The Padres had a strong pitching unit that worked their way around. Jurickson Profar made an excellent diving catch, which Ohtani smashed. Defensively, the Padres had a strong game as they dominated.
The Padres recorded an easy victory with a strong start to this series. They have inched one step closer to securing the NL West Divison. However, they must sweep their rival and win the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally, the Dodgers must lose at least one or two games against the Rockies.
Dylan Cease and Jack Flaherty, as predicted, will start in Game 2 tomorrow. The Padres have clinched their ticket to the postseason after their huge success.
