On the field, 2024 was a memorable year for Luis Arraez as the 27-year-old fought off Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani to win the batting title, making this the third successive season that the Venezuelan has managed the feat. Arraez finished the regular season with a .314 batting average, along with four home runs and 46 RBIs.
Having made a move to the Padres in May, Arraez became a fan favorite at Petco Park. Hitting a walkoff single to win the game against bitter rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers in a 2-1 victory on May 11 was also pretty helpful for endearing himself to his new fans.
Though both Arraez and his team headed into the postseason full of hope and confidence, the Dodgers broke the Padres' hearts when it mattered most, winning a nail-biting division series 3-2, en route to winning the World Series.
