Luis Arraez had a strong 2024 season with the San Diego Padres. He became the first player in major league history to win three straight batting titles with three separate teams.
After the Padres were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS, Arraez underwent surgery for a thumb injury which he had been playing through for almost the entire second half of the season.
On Instagram on Wednesday, Arraez provided fans with an update on the successful completion of the operation. Several MLB stars, like the Atlanta Braves' Marcell Ozuna, Padres teammate Jackson Merrill and the Arizona Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte commented on the post, wishing him a speedy recovery.
"May god cover all those wounds and give you strength to recover as soon as possible to move forward little man blessings from above🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.. La Regadera (which is Arraez's Spanish nickname, 'The Sprinker') 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌," Marcell Ozuna commented in Spanish.
"My Dawg 🙏," Jackson Merrill commented
"Get well soon my brother," Ketel Marte commented in Spanish.
Luis Arraez expresses desire to stay in San Diego for "a long time"
The San Diego Padres' run in the 2024 postseason came to an end at the hand of rivals Los Angeles Dodgers, as they were eliminated after losing the fifth game of the NLDS 2-0 at Dodger Stadium. Despite taking the lead in the series after three games, the Padres came up short in the next two games.
Luis Arraez, who arrived from the Miami Marlins, was a perfect fit in San Diego's lineup and became quite a fan favorite. After the NLDS, the Padres' leadoff hitter talked to the press in the dressing room, expressing his desire to continue at Petco Park.
"I wanna stay here," Arraez said (Timestamp: 3:14). "Everybody knows it's business, I understand that, but I hope I stay here for a long time."
Despite a disappointing end to the 2024 season, the Friars showed that they have a lot of potential, and Padres fans will be hoping they can retain the services of Luis Arraez, who is a big part of their offense.
