Blake Snell is nearing a return from the 15-day IL for the San Francisco Giants, and at the same time, his girlfriend, Haeley Mar, is pregnant. While the expectation is that Snell will rejoin the Giants' rotation on Wednesday, this is yet to be confirmed.
Manager Bob Melvin discussed the topic with reporters before the Giants' 14-4 win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday, and the matter of Snell and Mar's pregnancy came up. When asked about when the baby might be expected and if that was impacting the Giants' decision on Snell's return, Melvin replied:
"I don't know when that's happening, it's tough to predict. But it is, it is pretty soon. Yeah, so we will see where we go with that."
Haeley Marr took to Instagram to laugh about the question, signaling that the reporter was not the only one wondering when the baby would come:
"Me and you wondering the same girl."
Snell and Mar took to IG in February to announce that they were expecting, with a wholesome post that was captioned:
"Commence parent era."
As for whether Blake Snell would be returning to the rotation on Wednesday, Melvin said:
“We’re discussing that. Depending on how he feels, there’s a good chance that that’s going to be the day.
“Seemed to be pretty good. It’s tough to get him enthusiastic about anything but he got what he needed. He actually pitched out of the stretch for a couple of hitters. Felt good about all his pitches, and obviously the results were good again.”
Blake Snell discusses rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento
Blake Snell spoke to the media following pitching five innings for Sacramento on Friday:
"I was repeating pitches repeating delivery," Snell said. "I definitely felt good. I was excited about it. … When you can repeat the delivery, when you can make adjustments, it's a good thing."
Snell pitched five innings, allowing zero hits, as the River Cats won 5-1.
"The only thing I was frustrated with was when I tried to throw the ball harder with the fastball, my head was kind of getting out of the way instead of staying through and trusting my delivery," Snell said.
"But outside of that, everything was straight through the plate, and I was pretty happy with it."
We will see if Blake Snell returns to the Giants' rotation in short order, and just how much longer it will be before he and Haeley Mar welcome a baby into the world.
