New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias shared a photo with a signed Shohei Ohtani jersey received as a gift from the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar. The two MLB stars went head-to-head in the NLCS, where Ohtani's Dodgers emerged victorious, winning 4-2 to book their ticket to the World Series.
Nonetheless, there was no respect and admiration lost between the two players. After receiving a signed jersey from Ohtani, Iglesias took to Instagram to thank the Japanese star.
"Thank you for the gift brother."
Jose Iglesias was signed as an international amateur agent by the Boston Red Sox in 2009 and made his major league debut with them in 2011.
After moving between the major and minor leagues for the next two years, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers. Iglesias spent six years in Detroit, his longest spell with an MLB team, and made his first and only All-Star appearance in 2015.
He had short stints with the Reds, Orioles, Rockies and the Angels, where he was teammates with Ohtani. Iglesias signed a minor league contract with the Mets ahead of 2024 and eventually broke into their lineup.
After finishing the regular season with a 22-game hitting streak, Iglesias played a huge role in the Mets' postseason run. They recorded a 2-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in the Wild Card Series before brushing aside the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 in the NLDS.
However, they fell to the Dodgers in the NLCS. Iglesias recorded 10 hits and three RBIs in 12 postseason games for the Mets this year.
Jose Iglesias eyeing 2025 return with the New York Mets after a successful season
After struggling in the MLB over the past few years, Jose Iglesias' decision to sign a one-year contract with the New York Mets proved to be beneficial for him.
The Cuban was one of the standout performers over the regular season and also played a huge part in raising team morale with his demeanor and hit song "OMG".
Approaching the end of his contract with the New York Mets, he has made it clear that he would be like to return to the team next season. However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him and how much interest he attracts from other teams in the winter.
