The Philadelphia Phillies are looking to shake things up after being bounced from the NLDS by the New York Mets. They have reportedly put a key player on the trade block.
Per MLB insider Jeff Passan, Philadelphia is open to trading slugger Alec Bohm this winter. Bohm is coming off a season where he played in 143 games, hitting .280/.332/.448 with 15 home runs and 97 runs batted in.
Bohm was on a tear to start the year, but he slowly began to taper off toward the end. It ultimately led to him being benched during Game 2 of the NLDS vs the Mets.
Fans have been pretty mixed in their reactions here. Some are taking shots at Philadelphia while others are trying to figure out the best fit for the slugger.
"Mets sent the Phillies into a spiral, love to see it" one fan posted.
"Alec Bohm would be a fine New York Yankee" said another.
"Welcome to Seattle" said another.
Some fans see the New York Yankees as a great fit for Bohm. However, another believes the Seattle Mariners would be the ideal destination.
"Send him on over to Detroit!" said another.
"Welcome to Milwaukee Alec Bohm!" said another.
"Muncy for Bohm. Who says no?" said another.
Fans also see teams like the Detroit Tigers or Milwaukee Brewers making sense here. However, the Phillies do not have a backup option at third base if they were to trade the All-Star this winter.
What are the Phillies planning to do this offseason?
The Phillies come into the offseason with a few holes they need to fill. Most importantly, they need to sign another dependable starting pitcher to help boost the rotation. While the top of their rotation was great, the bottom struggled mightily.
Another hole the club needs to fill over the winter is the outfield. They need an outfield upgrade and there are tons of upgrades on the open market. Teoscar Hernandez and Anthony Santander currently sit without a team for next season.
Lastly, like most teams, Philadelphia could use an upgrade in the bullpen. They have a few exciting arms returning but will miss Carlos Esteves and Jeff Hoffman as both are free agents.
Philadelphia will also have to figure out what they are doing at third base if they send Alec Bohm on his way. There are tons of questions in Philadelphia and the fanbase is waiting for answers.
