The Atlanta Braves have been plagued by injury this year, but Michael Harris II should be returning soon. The star outfielder has been on the Injured List for almost two full months as the Braves outfield continues to get ravaged by injuries. Harris was dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain.
On August 6, however, he is set to begin his rehab stint with the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves. This is the final step in his journey to recovery, and he has worked tirelessly for a while to get healthy again.
The outfielder is ready to play games now, but not quite ready to play MLB games. To get his timing back and to get his body acclimatized to the grind of an MLB season, he'll spend a few games with the Triple-A team.
It is unclear how long the rehab stint will last, but there's a good chance he'll be back by the weekend or the beginning of next week.
The Braves need Michael Harris II back for their flailing outfield
The Braves have been demolished by injuries this year. Most notably, they lost Spencer Strider (an NL Cy Young candidate) for the season and Ronald Acuna Jr. (the reigning NL MVP) tore his ACL again.
That forced the Braves to get creative in the outfield, especially since Michael Harris II has been injured as well. They brought back Eddie Rosario and made a deal for Jorge Soler at the deadline. It mirrors what they did when Acuna Jr. went down in 2021.
They didn't have Harris in 2021 when the rash of outfield issues came up, but this time they do. They've been able to tread water since as they made up ground on the Philadelphia Phillies in his absence. The team will look to continue the momentum when he returns.
Harris is one of the top defensive outfielders in baseball and a capable bat to fit into what has been a surprisingly disappointing lineup. He will bring great value to the team as they make their final push for the division title once again.
