Mike Trout is not returning for the Oakland Athletics' series, which was speculated to happen when he started his rehab assignment. After having some good base runs and ground activities, Trout felt ready for his game with Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
However, he had a change in plans. After only two innings, Trout felt discomfort in his left knee and left the game to fly back to Ahaehim, LA for medical assurance. Luckily, the MRI results came back negative, but put the Angels' superstar behind the schedule.
When Sam Blum of The Athletic talked with Ron Washington, LA Angels’ manager, on Trout's possible return, he said that the decision depended on Trout alone.
“It's Mike, you have to talk to Mike. It's all on Mike. How he feels, and if he can go out there. We can't force him out there," said Washington, per Blum.
Washington further added:
“It’s all on Mike. He’s dealing with something. He’s never had this surgery, like that. When the scar tissue pops, it’s scary. He’s going to ramp it up. I hope to have him soon. To put a timetable on it, I don’t have it. But I hope to have him soon."
The Angels are 45-60 this season, with their series finale against the Oakland Athletics being played right now.
They are 10-and-a-half games behind the AL West topper Houston Astros (55-49). It looks like their postseason drought might be continuing, despite appointing Ron Washington this year.
Mike Trout is eager to return but has no timeline yet
Mike Trout started the season strong with a slash line of .220/.325/.541 and an OPS of .867 in 29 games. His 14 RBIs, 17 runs and 10 home runs briefly kept the team on top of the Divison group.
However, with his departure in April, the team also lost their momentum, and now somehow keep themselves from not getting the last place. Trout is eager to return to help his team in such a dire time, but the date is not confirmed.
“It could be any day,” Trout said (per MLB.com). “When it feels right, I’ll be out there running. I have a little [soreness] today. But I talked to a lot of guys who had this injury and they say the scar tissue breaks up and it takes a couple of days.”
As of the top of the third inning, the As are leading 5-0 against the Angels, eyeing a potential sweep at Angel Stadium.
