Milwaukee Brewers fans react to disgruntled statements from team's ace Corbin Burnes: "I hate this team. And I hate myself for rooting for them"

The Milwaukee Brewers and Corbin Burnes are not off to a good start this season. The two sides had their salary arbitration hearing on Wednesday, which Burnes eventually lost. Burnes requested a salary of $10.75 million in 2023, but will only be paid $10.01 million.

Arbitration hearings are almost always awkward. You have a player explaining why they deserve that amount of money and the player's front office arguing why the player shouldn't. This could lead to a conflict between the player and the front office, which appears to be what happened here.

It definitely seems like there was some love lost this week. Burnes felt a bit disrespected by the way the team viewed his work. He thinks he means a lot more to the team than what they see.

You can't blame him, either. Corbin Burnes has consistently been a core member of the Milwaukee Brewers. Any success they have seen in the last three years, Burnes has been a big part of it.

"I hate this team. And I hate myself for rooting for them" one fan explained.
"They told him he's the reason they didn't make the playoffs? What??" another fan asked.

Fans are preparing for the worst after hearing how disgruntled Burnes is. They don't see him being a Brewer for much longer.

This is exactly why teams work so frantically to get a deal done before arbitration. All it takes is one arbitration hearing for a relationship to be ruined forever.

Can Corbin Burnes and the Milwaukee Brewers work things out?

Corbin Burnes is set to become a free agent in 2024. He'll be one of the top arms in that class.

Since transitioning to a starter, Burnes has been more than dominant. He's posted a career 2.62 ERA while averaging an impressive 11.7 K/9. He led the league in games started (33) and strikeouts (243) last season.

Teams in the National League Central wouldn't mind seeing Burnes and the Brewers split. He's been a thorn in teams like the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals.

It will be interesting to see how this season plays out for both the Brewers and Burnes. Will he be with the team the entire season, or will the team look to dish him out at the trade deadline? Will they trade him if they're playoff contenders?
