Two days after opting out of his minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, Luke Voit is back with the "Brew Crew" after signing a one-year major league contract with a club option for 2024.
The first baseman/designated hitter hit 22 home runs with 69 RBIs last season for the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals. A .254 career hitter, he has 95 home runs and 272 RBIs in six major-league seasons with the Padres, Nationals, St. Louis Cardinals, and New York Yankees.
Voit was on the open market again for a total of two days before returning to the Brewers. In 40 at-bats over 15 spring training games with Milwaukee, he is hitting .300 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Most Brewers fans were overjoyed with their team bringing back Voit. The stocky slugger is custom-made for a team that plays in a state based on beef, cheese, and beer. Originally a non-roster invitee, he will split playing time with Rowdy Tellez at first base and Jesse Winker at designated hitter in the regular season.
Not all fans were pleased about the Brewers hanging on to Luke Voit at the cost of keeping young, promising talent on the big-league roster. Outfielder Sal Frelick, the team's no. 2 prospect, was a name that came to many Milwaukee supporters' minds. He will open the season with Triple-A Nashville, as with No. 3 prospect Joey Wiemer, also an outfielder.
The news everyone knew since last week also became official, as infielder Keston Hiura was designated for assignment. Hiura, taken by the Brewers with the No. 9 overall pick in 2017, never found a stable home after four seasons in Milwaukee.
The writing has been on the wall for Hiura, who played 141 games for the Milwaukee Brewers over the past two seasons. In his four-year career, he is hitting .238 with 50 home runs and 132 RBIs. It's a far cry from what Brewers fans thought they were getting.
One thing is for certain: Luke Voit is a Brewer, even though it didn't look that way this past weekend. What a difference a day, or two, makes.
Luke Voit has been well traveled as a major leaguer

Luke Voit is now back in the same division where his big-league career began, the National League Central. He debuted in 2017 with the Cardinals, one of the Brewers' top rivals. That season, he hit .246 with four home runs and 18 RBIs in 62 games.
