Following their postseason exit, the Minnesota Twins are making a few roster changes. They can't really make any additions to the roster yet, but they can drop players they don't intend on keeping for the future, and that's exactly what they've done.
The Minnesota Twins have begun a bit of a clean house, as they are moving on from Jordan Luplow, Andrew Stevenson and Jose De Leon. After placing them on waivers, no team claimed them. Thus, they are no longer on the roster and are free agents.
The Twins made the playoffs by virtue of the AL Central crown. They then defeated the Toronto Blue Jays in the wild card round with a home sweep in two games.
They could not defeat the Houston Astros in the Divisional Series, but they have a good roster to build on for the future. That evidently does not include Luplow, Stevenson and De Leon.
With players like Royce Lewis, Carlos Correa and Joe Ryan, the Twins will look to add pieces in those now vacated spots to continue working towards the eventual goal of a World Series title.
Minnesota Twins preparing for roster shakeup
Clearly, the pieces were there for the Minnesota Twins. They made the playoffs and pretty easily won their division, with an 87-win record. Nevertheless, that did not get them where they wanted to go, and they're looking to shake things up.
The American League Central is notoriously weak, but that doesn't matter for the postseason. Teams in the playoffs are not weak, and the Twins would like to build a roster to compete with them as well as keeping their divisional opponents in the basement.
That means some veterans will be cast off in favor of better players. That's begun with Jordan Luplow and company. The Twins are freeing up some space to add players in free agency as they try to improve on their good season from 2023.
Who that will be remains to be seen since free agency doesn't begin until well after the postseason ends.
