The Detroit Tigers have been on a tear as of late. They are currently on a five-game winning streak, just recently sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays and taking a few games from the Baltimore Orioles.
They are tied for second place in the American League Central. At 85-74, they have the same record as the Kansas City Royals, who have been a fun team to watch this season.
Detroit holds the final wild-card spot in the AL at the moment. Their magic number is at two with a series against the Chicago White Sox coming up. However, the Southsiders are coming off a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, so Detroit cannot overlook them.
The Detroit Tigers have rallied to put themselves in a potential postseason spot
The Tigers were sellers at the trade deadline just months ago. They traded away one of their great starting pitchers, Jack Flaherty, to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and many thought the season was over.
Despite that, the team kept being competitive, knowing they had what it took to reach the postseason. They have been led by Tarik Skubal who is having a career year on the mound this season.
Skubal has started 31 games this season, compiling an 18-4 record with a 2.39 ERA across 192 innings of work. The only other pitcher to even come close to what Skubal is doing is Atlanta Braves ace Chris Sale.
Offensively, the team has gotten a lot from its players. Riley Greene leads the way with 24 home runs. Six players have at least 10 or more home runs.
This is not a team to overlook as they have been killing it lately. Watch out for them in the postseason if they reach their magic number of two.
