The Toronto Blue Jays have signed reliever Jeff Hoffman on a three-year, $33 million deal, but a lot of their future still depends on whether they hold on to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette.

Toronto is at a crossroad, as two of its biggest players enter the last year of their contract. On Baseball Today, analyst Trevor Plouffe gave his take on the Blue Jays' new signing [15:46 - 21:09]:

"No, I don't feel like that's an overpay at all. You're talking about $11 million a year, look at the past two years what he's been able to do. Does the fit make sense?
"Yeah, Toronto needed bullpen help but we always are asking what direction are the Blue Jays going. Are they just blowing in the wind? Do they have a direction? I don't really know."

Plouffe went on to offer his thoughts on what the Toronto front office needs to do to get the team where they want to be:

"It would change if they signed Vladdy to a long-term deal. It would signal that you're going to continue to add players ... To completely turn this thing around, they'd have to spend significant amounts of money and really dive into free agency."
"It's not like this team hasn't won baseball games, it just hasn't turned into anything. ... It hasn't been a complete disaster but a lot of us were expecting a lot more out of the Blue Jays. And now they're at the point where they have to make the decision on Vlad and Bo. ... I think it's fair to talk about them in this light, they need to really pick a direction and go with it."

Heading into the offseason, Toronto needed some bullpen help, so adding an All-Star reliever is certainly a good move. However, they haven't reached any closer to extending either Vladimir Guerrero Jr. of Bo Bichette, making the future of their team uncertain.

The Toronto front office has been in pursuit of several big names and have also signed many good players. However, there's seemingly no idea of where they are heading in the near future.

MLB insider names the Blue Jays as one of the finalists in the Roki Sasaki sweepstakes

Just days after signing reliever Jeff Hoffman, the Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to coveted Japanese ace Roki Sasaki.

The 23-year-old is the latest pitching phenom out of Japan, and insider Jon Heyman reports that he has narrowed down his options to three teams - the Dodgers, Padres and the Blue Jays.

This is definitely good news for Toronto fans. Not only because of Sasaki's reputation but also how it could inluence Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette to extend with the club.
