The New York Yankees has been one of the most active teams in the offseason, making changes to the roster after their disappointing loss in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers in October.

Question marks were raised over the Yankees' infield after they capitulated in Game 5 of the Fall Classic. With first baseman Anthony Rizzo walking into free agency at the end of the 2024 season and second baseman Gleyber Torres' reunion also in doubt, the Yankees have a few infield gaps to fill.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. excelled at third base after his switch from the Miami Marlins where he mostly played second base. However, MLB analyst Rich Ciancimino feels Chisholm should be at second base with eight-time All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado an ideal option for the Yankees with Anthony Volpe at shortstop.

He said on "The Mayor's Office with Sean Casey" (14:00):

"The interesting thing about the Yankees is Jazz Chisholm Jr. showed he can play third, but If Jazz is your second baseman and you have another guy that's playing third, you're a better Yankee team.
"They're talking about Paul Goldschmidt (at first) here and there like but I agree I would rather have Nolan Arenado. If you put Arenado at third, Anthony Volpe at short, Jazz at second, you're better. Let's play some ball. Let's go."

Nolan Arenado has been one of the best players at third since his MLB debut in 2013. The veteran St. Louis Cardinals slugger is reportedly being considered as a trade option for the franchise but the 10-time Gold Glove winner has a no-trade clause in his contract.

However, the Yankees must be hopeful of a trade after Arenado reportedly refused to waive his clause for a move to the Houston Astros on Wednesday.

Potential third base options for the Yankees in the offseason

While Rich Ciancimino picked Nolan Arenado as his ideal third baseman for the Yankees, the Bronx Bombers are reportedly interested in bringing in former Astros star Alex Bregman.

With the Yankees signing All-Star slugger and former Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger this week to strengthen the outfield, the infield remains the top priority for the World Series runners-up.

Fansided's Chris Landers threw another former Astros star's name in the mix, Carlos Correa, as a potential option at third base. However, Correa has struggled with injuries in his last two seasons with the Minnesota Twins, casting doubt over a potential move to the Yankees who are looking to make another World Series push next season.
