MLB analyst sheds light on Yankees struggles, believes new deals won't bring change: "You're not gonna solve this through a trade"

New York Yankees are in a world of trouble

The New York Yankees' chances of securing an AL wild card spot are slim. This season, the highly ambitious Yanks, led by Aaron Judge, struggled to maintain consistency, endured ups and downs, and failed to string together a commendable winning streak.

As the problems surfaced, MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal had his take on what the struggling Bronx Bombers could do to make something of the 2023 season and how to prepare for the next one.

"Ken Rosenthal on what the Yankees need to do... 'You're not gonna solve this through free agency. You're not gonna solve this through a trade. You need the players under contract to perform better.'" - FoulTerritoryTV

The Yankees' current position in the AL East basement and nine games back of the third and final wild-card place is the result of a number of errors.

Although SportsLine and FanGraphs both give the Yankees less than a 2% chance of making the postseason, they are theoretically still in the running because they are seven games back of the final wild card slot. Their chances are between minimal and nonexistent.

"Tampa is no doubt the best of the bunch. If the Yankees had a better offence, I might lean the other way. TEX and HOU can put up huge numbers offensively whereas the Yankees struggle with that. I think there’s more risk in facing the better offences that SEA will deal with" - RobWong34

The Yankees will want to make that choice and that move as quickly as possible if the winds start to change and chairman Hal Steinbrenner starts to be amenable to removing Cashman.

The sooner you make the decision to cut the cord, the sooner you can start the hiring process for a replacement, and your new general manager can start restructuring the roster. The Yankees appear to be practicing for 2024 with each game, and that includes completing the baseball operations division.

How can the New York Yankees head into the 2024 season?

It's not a good idea to call up young players late in the season merely for the purpose of calling up young players. Because the big-league Yankees are no longer in the running, young players are not necessarily more MLB-ready, and if you rush or push a prospect too hard, you run the danger of stunting his growth. Young players should be called up. It just needs to be done wisely.

"How would you fix the Yankees?" - Xavier_Scruggs

The Yankees are in a fix; Stanton has been hitting below par, Judge has started to peak but seems like it might be a little too late, and the bullpen has been struggling, except for RHP Gerrit Cole. It will be a tumultuous task for the Bronx Bombers to adjust and accept their fate in this horrid season, only to come back stronger in the next, provided some decent trades are made after the 2023 season.
